How deep in your leg are the major veins?

a friend of mine cuts... she told me that she cuts her legs, wrists, places like that... she just told me that she cut her leg and it wont stop bleeding, can someone please tell me how deep the major veins in the leg are? i want to make sure that if i cant convince her not to cut, that i can at least tell her how deep not to cut...
